Transferable Skills Analyses (TSA) are highly individualized assessments. The time and effort required can vary greatly depending on the client’s work and medical history, the available documentation, and the overall complexity of the case. This variability means that billing for TSAs is rarely a one-size-fits-all process.

Here is an overview of our approach to billing and key considerations to keep in mind:

Hourly Billing is Standard

We typically bill at an hourly rate, which allows for flexibility across a wide range of cases. The time required can vary based on several factors, including:

  • Complexity of the client’s work history

  • Volume and relevance of medical or functional information

  • Time required for file review and interviews

  • Report length and formatting needs

Typical Time Commitment

In most cases, a full TSA takes approximately 6 to 7 hours to complete, excluding travel time. More complex files—especially those involving extensive documentation or unclear vocational direction—may require additional time.

Detailed Invoicing

To maintain transparency, we provide detailed invoices that outline the tasks completed, such as:

  • File and medical documentation review

  • Structured interview with the client

  • Skills and occupational analysis

  • Report writing and formatting

Flat Rate Requests

Some referral sources prefer a flat rate. When this is the case, we ensure that the scope of work and expected time commitment are clearly defined from the outset to avoid misunderstandings or underestimation.

Travel and Ancillary Time

We bill travel time separately at the same hourly rate unless other arrangements have been agreed upon. This includes travel for in-person interviews, meetings, or team conferences.

What Are Your Billing Practices?

If you are a vocational consultant or rehabilitation professional completing TSAs, we would love to hear about your approach. Do you use hourly or flat rates? How do you manage more complex assessments?

Let’s continue the conversation and work toward consistent, transparent billing practices across our field.
