FCE and OaSIS Guidance for Vocational Rehabilitation
A free resource to support the use of Functional Capacity Evaluation findings in Transferable Skills Analysis
Functional Capacity Evaluations provide important information about a client's physical abilities. Translating those findings into OaSIS terminology can be more challenging, particularly when the vocational rehabilitation professional is not qualified to independently interpret physical assessment findings.
This free resource provides guidance and a rating form that can be given to the Functional Capacity Evaluator to help them communicate their clinical findings using selected OaSIS Physical Abilities and Work Activities.
What is included?
The six-page resource includes:
- Guidance for interpreting FCE findings using selected OaSIS descriptors
- Direction on using the Canadian Rating Guide levels
- Guidance for rating safe and sustainable performance
- Selected OaSIS Physical Abilities commonly relevant to vocational rehabilitation
- Selected OaSIS Work Activities, including sitting, standing, walking, climbing and repetitive movement
- Space for the FCE provider to add comments and clinical context
Why use this resource?
The goal is to keep the interpretation of physical assessment findings with the professional who completed the Functional Capacity Evaluation.
The FCE provider can use the form to express their professional opinion using terminology that aligns with OaSIS. The vocational rehabilitation professional can then consider that information alongside the client's medical information, interview, education, training, work history, transferable skills and labour market information.
The final vocational opinion remains the responsibility of the vocational rehabilitation professional.
A flexible starting point
The form includes selected physical descriptors that are commonly relevant to vocational rehabilitation. It is not intended to cover every possible referral question.
If another OaSIS descriptor is particularly important for an individual client, the vocational rehabilitation professional can request that the FCE provider consider that descriptor as well.
